Attendance Policy:
Attendance plays a major part in students acquiring the skills to be successful. It is a must for students to be in school as much as possible to take full advantage of daily instructions.
The Okolona School District Educational Community encourages students and parents to treat attendance as a high priority.
A student must meet minimum attendance standards as established by the Okolona Municipal Separate School District and the Mississippi Department of Education. A student shall not exceed (20) absences, excused or UN-excused, in a full unit course. A student shall not exceed (10) absences, excused or UN-excused in a one semester course. A student who exceeds the number of absences, excused or UN-excused, shall not receive credit for the course. If a student exceeds the attendance policy, they have the right to appeal in the following manner.
Arrival:
Students should not arrive prior to 7:15 A.M. Students who wish to eat breakfast must arrive at school prior to 7:45 A.M.
Dismissal:
All car riders … 2:50 P.M.
All bus riders/walkers …3:00
Changes in Transportation:
If there is a change in student transportation, or if a student needs to ride a different bus, you must notify the school’s office before 2:00 P.M. If you need to pick up your child early, you must do so by 2:15 P.M. Please come to the office and follow the check-out procedure.
Grooming:
The clothes students wear to school expresses pride in his school and himself. We expect students to look their best when representing our school. Students inappropriately dressed will be sent home to change. When violations are repeated, a parent conference will be required before the student is allowed to attend classes. The administration has the right to determine if the dress code is being violated.
Grading-Promotion/Retention-Report Cards:
Kindergarten students will be transferred to 1st grade. They will not be retained without permission of parents and reviewed by the principal.
Grades 1-6 students must have a passing (70% or above) yearly average in Math, Reading, and Language Arts to be promoted. The yearly average is the average of two semester numerical grades.

Family Involvement and Participation:
Parents are encouraged to stay involved in their children's education by scheduling regular parent-teacher conferences to keep inform of your child's progress. Join the PTA at school and attend quarterly meetings to share your ideas with other parents and teachers. Come to campus and volunteer in your child's classroom or helping with scheduled field trips. Parents are welcome on campus.
Conduct and Discipline:
The Okolona School District has adopted a Code of Conduct prescribing the rules and regulations for the control, discipline, suspension and expulsion of students.
Drugs, Alcohol, Weapons:
K-6 students suspected of or witnessed as in violation of severe disruptions F and/or G will be dealt with according to School Board Policy. They shall be brought to the principal or her designee immediately. The appropriate disciplinary action will be administered to any student in grades in violation.
(F) Part A - Use or Possession of Drugs (on school property or at school sponsored activities).
FIRST OFFENSE - expelled for one year (no less than twelve (12 months).
Part B - Use or Possession of Alcohol or Tobacco Products
FIRST OFFENSE - Suspension (10 day minimum) or expulsion.
SECOND OFFENSE - Mandatory expulsion
(G) Use or Possession of Weapons, Knives, Fireworks, or Other Dangerous Devices.
FIRST OFFENSE - Immediate Suspension (10 day minimum) or expulsion depending on type of weapon and/or action of the violator.
